Think ahead and stock up on great gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, bridal showers, weddings, and/or graduations.

Public Service Announcement:  As you may have noticed, this is warehouse/sample sale season. Scroll to the bottom of this post for a list of sales and other happenings.

Tips worth repeating: check the websites before going; go early for the best selection; pick a city and go to the sales in that city; bring a bag; bring cash for when credit cards are not accepted; and bring a friend. Because we have so many sales at the same time strategic planning is a must. If a sale looks interesting make sure you put it on your calendar. Most of these sales are only a day or two and only come around once or twice a year.

Happy Deal Tracking!

11 Free Mother’s Day Activities

 Funny-Mothers-day-Quotes-from-kids-811 Free Mother’s Day Activities. May 10, 2015.

Not to alarm you but Sunday is Mother’s Day. Consider skipping the all-you-can-eat brunch and taking Mom to one of these 11 Free Mother’s Day activities. BTW  – most of the activities on this list don’t require a Mom and all are fun.

Just for the record, I admit to having mixed feelings about this artificial holiday. Mother’s Day is cleverly designed to pull coins of the realm out of your pocket. And, like most holidays, Mother’s Day has the potential of creating guilt, isolation, and disappointment. I know, what’s a holiday without that trio?

So whether you are celebrating Mother’s Day, or are just looking for something fun to do this weekend, check out this curated list of free (or close to free) events. Have some fun. Your mother would approve. I swear.

How Weird Street Faire 2015 Kicks Off the Festival Season

howweird-logo-trippy6How Weird Street Faire. April 26, 2015.

Sunday is the 16th annual How Weird Street Faire – a sensational spectacle of art, music, and creativity.

More laid back than Bay to Breakers, more weird than Carnival, less crowded than Love Fest, rated G relative to the Folsom Street Fair, and more unexpected than the Haight, Fillmore or Union Street Fairs, the How Weird Street Faire is truly in a class by itself.

Dust off your Halloween costume and experience the fun, feel the magic and be weird. Or just be a looky-loo. Either way the How Weird Street Faire is a great kickoff to the festival season. Bring it on!
