8 Tips For the Friends of SF Public Library Big Book Sale 2017:

  1. Try and snag a shopping cart as soon as you get inside. Books are heavy and you can quickly accumulate an armload of  “must haves.” And don’t forget to bring a reusable bag (or two or three) to lug your treasures home. Paper bags provided, boxes sold for $1.
  2. Budget plenty of time to browse/shop. The sale is well-organized – books are grouped by genre and displayed bind side up. But with are over half a million books and media in 70 different categories you will need a minimum of two hours to check out the Big Book Sale merch. Click here for a downloadable copy of the floor map.
  3. The fine print: Cash, cards & checks are accepted. Items are not held overnight. There are no returns. Scanners are accepted.
  4. Dress for success. Wear comfy shoes – you will do a lot of standing and walking. Consider stashing your cash, license and credit card in your pocket and leaving your fashionably over-sized/heavy purse home – the last thing you need is to lug heavy books and a heavy purse.
  5. Bring a friend and take turns waiting in the check-out line. The lines are long and slow especially on the preview day when professional buyers clog the registers with grocery carts packed with 100s of books.
  6. Want FREE books? Volunteer. Volunteers receive complimentary tickets to the Member Preview Sale & Reception, a first look at all the items, and a $5 coupon for every shift. Spaces are still open. Call (415) 477-5223 or email brenda.salguero@friendssfpl.org.
  7. Come for the sale and stay for the day. Walk around Fort Mason and the Marina Green. Fort Mason has fantastic views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Stroll along the Marina Green for people and dog watching. Enjoy seeing the fabulous kites that dot the sky. Bring a picnic or go to Chestnut Street for lunch. Friday night enjoy 30+ Off Grid food trucks, 3 bars and live music. Sunday enjoy a great Farmer’s Market in the Fort Mason parking log. 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  8. Dogs (on leash) are allowed but only bring your dog if it plays well with others and doesn’t get stressed out in a crowded, stimulating, and noisy environment populated with lots of dogs and people.

Cut Loose Factory Store Annual Summer Clearance. Sale Starts September 15, 2017.

San Francisco’s Cut Loose Factory Store Annual Summer Clearance is their biggest sale of the year.

All summer first quality clothing is 40% off and select seconds are 50% off. And that is off the already reduced factory store price! Consider this your ticket to great deals on Cut Loose’s sophisticated line of women’s casual clothing.

Shop sizes XS-XL.

THE DEAL:

The Cut Loose Factory Store carries current season samples and past season styles of their signature line of casual women’s clothing locally made from eco-friendly fabrics.  Cut Loose’s clothing is super comfy, stylish, washable, comes in fun colors and flatters most body types.

This line skews more to an over 30 crowd since everything is, well, cut loose. So if you like a flattering fit that helps to camouflage that little-bit-of-accumulated-good-eating-around-the-middle or you just like comfy clothes, you will probably love the Cut Loose line.

Just in time for San Francisco’s Indian Summer the Cut Loose Factory Store Annual Summer Clearance is offering 40% off summer styles; and 50% off select seasonal seconds in the back room**  (** The back room is open Friday and Saturday, September 15 + 16 only)

9 Tips For Shopping the Cut Loose Factory Store Annual Summer Clearance:

    1.  Come early. Deal Tracker “duh” but worth repeating if you want first dibs. On the other hand if you are zen about your shopping you can come at your convenience. This is not one of those warrior-style sales with women clawing each other for deals. In fact, the shoppers tend to be very congenial and the staff helpful.
    2. Can’t make the sale dates?  Shhhh, I have it on the QT the sale will likely continue after September 17th and new clothes will get added after the 17th.
    3. Dress for success. Wear a tank top/camisole, leggings, and slip on shoes. This makes trying on clothing super easy in their communal dressing room. BTW, feel free to ask for opinions from fellow shoppers – everyone does!
    4. Shop hands free. Leave your heavy over-sized purse home. Stash your cash, credit card, driver’s license, and lightweight reusable bag in your (zippered) jacket pocket. Your shoulders and back will thank you.
    5. Size it up. A lot of Cut Loose clothing is generously cut. So if you are a “medium” and the shirt you love is a “small” try it on any way, you might be pleasantly surprised by a perfect fit.
    6. Inspect. Look for tears, holes, broken zippers, and other imperfections. Flawed but still must have it? Consider politely showing the imperfection to a sales person and inquiring if s/he can help you out on the price. Yup, it’s okay to do this. It never hurts to ask and it’s not personal if they say “no.” But tread lightly –  It is a thin line between a reasonable request and chutzpah…NoteThis does not apply to seconds in the back room – those are all flawed and the price reflects the flaw.
    7.  Ruthlessly edit. Just because it is a great price does not mean it is a great deal. It is only a great deal if you are going to wear it. If your deal is “dry clean” only it is probably not a deal. If your deal needs alterations it is probably not a deal. Expensive maintenance and/or a bad fit usually means long-term residence in your closet, with the tags attached. It is better to walk away empty-handed than come home with something you are not going to wear.
    8. Bring a trusted friend. It helps to have another set of eyes to keep you from making any major fashion faux pas.
    9. Post shopping refuel at  Arizmendi Bakery (1268 Valencia) or Ritual Coffee Roasters (1026 Valencia).

Paly Fiery Arts Glass Sale Fall 2017 showcases over 1000 glass objet d’art hand-blown by instructors, alumni and advanced art students. Find gorgeous bowls, vases, pumpkins, acorns, pears, and more.

I know, it borders on blasphemy to suggest you attend a High School art event especially if the event does not involve someone you know intimately – like your son or daughter. However I saw glass art from Paly’s Fiery Arts program displayed and sold at the prestigious Palo Alto Clay and Glass Festival. I was impressed.

Shop the sale and check out glass blowing demonstrations.

Free Admission.

THE DEAL:

Palo Alto is one of the few schools in the country to offer glass blowing as part of its Visual Arts Program.

On sale are both decorative and functional art glass including pumpkins, cups, bowls, vases, elephants, trees, cherries, and more. Why You Should Shop The Kuhn Rikon End of Summer Warehouse Sale http://www.dealtrackersf.com/kuhn-rikon-end-of-summer-warehouse-sale/ http://www.dealtrackersf.com/kuhn-rikon-end-of-summer-warehouse-sale/#respond Wed, 06 Sep 2017 01:06:58 +0000 http://www.dealtrackersf.com/?p=20082 Kuhn Rikon End of Summer Warehouse Sale. September 9, 2017.

Kuhn Rikon End of Summer Warehouse Sale has high quality cooking tools and cookware at prices wholesale and below. As in way below what you would spend at your fave cooking stores even if you have one (or 5) of those ubiquitous (yet loved) blue 20% off coupons….

Mark your calendar. You have one sweet day to shop for cookware, pressure cookers, kitchen tools/gadgets, and more.

THE DEAL:

Kuhn Rikon is the #1 brand of Swiss cookware, kitchen tools and gadgets. Their quality products, innovative design, bright colors, and simplicity make these wares irresistible to both home cooks and professional chefs.

The Kuhn Rikon Warehouse End of Summer Warehouse Sale  has great deals on discontinued items, samples, and overruns.

With everything priced at wholesale or below you will want to stock up for your own kitchen and hostess gifts.

Good to know: This sale is not in place of the annual November sale. Think of it as a bonus shopping day. It is unlikely that other Bel Marin Keys warehouses will also have sales on September 9th. Can’t make this sale? You will get another chance at the next Bel Marin Keys “neighborhood” warehouse sale now scheduled for Nov 16-18, 2017. Stay tuned for more details as the date gets closer.

Bonus:  The first 50 shoppers in line will get a free gift.

10 TIPS FOR KUHN RIKON END OF SUMMER WAREHOUSE SALE:

  1. This sale is popular so expect a lot of other deal trackers and people lining up before the doors open. The first 50 people in line will receive a FREE gift. They limit the number of people inside so there is a good chance you will stand in line waiting to enter. If you don’t have to have first dibs (or the free gift) come a few hours after opening. Also note that at prior sales they gave away various gifts with different purchase levels.
  2. Bring a shopping partner. If the lines are long you can take turns shopping and waiting in line. Plus you can help each other make smart choices.
  3. This sale takes place in the front of the warehouse. Find products  on folding tables, in boxes, and shelves. They pack a lot of merchandise in a small(ish) space.
  4. Not to generalize but the crowd at this sale, unlike many sales we deal track, are very friendly. Expect a sense of community and sharing instead of guerrilla-style acquisition tactics.
  5. The sale is only as long as the supplies last.
  6. Credit (AmEx, Visa, MC, Discover) and Cash only. No checks. No bitcoin.
  7. Want a shorter check out wait? Pay with cash. The cash line is usually shorter than the credit card line.
  8. All sales are final. No exchanges, no returns, period.
  9. No sale previews aka early shopping.
  10. Consider this a stock up opportunity with this caveat: buy what you need and what you will use. Just because it is a great price does not mean it is a great deal. It is better to walk away empty-handed then come home with something you do not need.Purchases that sit in your front hall closet unused are not deals. I know because this happens to me…

You Will Want to Leave The City For Kings Mountain Art Fair 2017 http://www.dealtrackersf.com/kings-mountain-art-fair-2017/ http://www.dealtrackersf.com/kings-mountain-art-fair-2017/#respond Wed, 30 Aug 2017 01:01:13 +0000 http://www.dealtrackersf.com/?p=20063 Kings Mountain Art Fair 2017. September 2, 3 + 4, 2017

Fall is approaching and with it the end of the fair/festival season. But it’s not over yet.

Nestled in a redwood forest with some of the finest handmade arts and crafts on the West Coast, Kings Mountain Art Fair 2017 is a lot like the grand finale at the 4th of July fireworks extravaganza – one last magnificent burst of wow before it all fades away.

Take a ride up the mountain and see first hand why the Art Fair SourceBook declared the Kings Mountain Art Fair the #1 Fine Arts Fair in Northern California (and maybe feel a little smug knowing there is an Art Fair SourceBook.)

Free admission.

THE DEAL:

For 54 years the destination for Labor Day weekend has been the Kings Mountain Art Fair. The juried event showcases 135+ fine artists and craftspeople across different mediums, including painting, photography, jewelry, woodwork, textiles, sculpture, toys, and furniture. A special feature of the fair is the  “Mountain Folk Art” with an additional 25 craftspeople, all local.

Plus enjoy eats, wine, beer, and live music.

Family friendly activities include face painting, balloon artists, crafts, and games. The “Kiddie Hollow” has supervised booths where for a nominal fee ($4 for 12 tickets, $7 for 26) children can spin, string, straw, or do glitter art. The best part – the “Parent’s Retreat” overlooks Kiddie Hollow, so adults can relax while children play. Kiddie Hollow is open from 10 am to 4 pm. Sounds perfect.

Good to know: Proceeds from the Kings Mountain Art Fair 2017 benefit Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade and Kings Mountain Elementary School.  All Art Fair workers, staff and management volunteer their time.

Just so you know you are not in San Francisco anymore – if you are traveling to the fair by horse, the nearby Mountain House Restaurant has several hitching posts.

10 Tips For Kings Mountain Art Fair 2017:

  1. Timing is everything. The Kings Mountain Art Fair is popular so try to get there early (8am-10:30am.)  Early birds can have breakfast with the artists, first pick at the art, and easier parking. Arrive the last couple of hours for less crowds and easier parking.
  2. Be decisive: If you see something you like consider buying it pronto – the wares are not mass-produced so vendors have limited stock.
  3. Bring cash. Not all vendors accept plastic.
  4. Bring a water bottle.
  5. Dress for success. Wear walking shoes. The festival is in a Redwood forest with uneven terrain. Dress in layers – temperatures can vary dramatically through the day.
  6. No pets allowed, not even your adorable-well-behaved pup, bird, or lizard. So leave your pet snoozing at home and definitely not left in the car.
  7. Bicycles are not permitted on the fair grounds. Bicycle racks are available.
  8. Park along Skyline Blvd., and take a free trolley from marked stops to the main entrance (2 stops, located about 1 mile north and south of the fair)
  9. Foodwise – the grill serves a pancake breakfast, including eggs and sausage. Lunch is basic “fair food” – burgers (beef and veggie), sausages, pulled pork, corn on the cob, chili, nachos, and sinfully good over sized cookies baked by the local parents and sold by the kids. Beer and wine are also available.
  10. On the fence? Check the participating artists to get an idea of the high quality merch.

How To Shop Adidas Warehouse Clearance Sale Summer 2017 http://www.dealtrackersf.com/how-to-shop-adidas-warehouse-clearance-sale-summer-2017/ Wed, 23 Aug 2017 01:23:56 +0000 http://www.dealtrackersf.com/?p=20051 Get new kicks for less Adidas Giant Warehouse SaleAdidas Warehouse Clearance Sale Summer 2017. August 23 – 27, 2017.

The Adidas Warehouse Clearance Sale Summer 2017 is your chance to stock up on their signature footwear, apparel and accessories (like backpacks, balls, watches, and sunglasses) for men, women and  kids.

Although not technically at a warehouse this sale has all the hallmarks of no-frills-low-price warehouse shopping including long folding tables topped with boxes of merch.

All sizes are on sale. Savings are up to 75% off regular retail.

Mark your calendar and make the most of your shopping with this how to shop guide.

How To Shop The Adidas Warehouse Clearance Sale Summer 2017:

  1. Timing is everything. Come early for the best selection. The best deals (but not the cheapest) typically sell out during the VIP* soft opening (i.e. the evening before the advertised first sale day.) Come close to closing time on the last day for the best deals. Prices drop each day of the sale. At the last sale all shoes dropped to $20. That’s a deal.
  2. Deals are everywhere. Shoppers tend to grab everything and sort through their finds while waiting in line to pay. Not the best etiquette but look for early bird discarded items along the check-out line. And be sure to look in the boxes under the tables.
  3. Dress for success. There are no dressings rooms. I did spot one full length mirror leaned against a wall by the woman’s bathroom. Therefore if you think you might want to try something on – wear a tank top under your shirt so you can try on tops and/or wear leggings so you can try on workout pants over your leggings. Shop hands free. Instead of carrying your heavy purse stash your cash, credit card, driver’s license, and lightweight reusable bag in your (zippered) jacket pocket.
  4. Bring a trusted friend. It helps to have another set of eyes to keep you from making any major fashion faux pas – no returns. Plus if the check-out line is punishingly long you and your BFF can trade-off – one waits in line while the other shops.
  5. Buying athletic shoes for the family? Bring their feet to try the shoes on for fit and comfort.
  6. Inspect your items carefully. All sales are FINAL. Look for tears, holes, broken zippers, and signs of poor construction. Flawed but still must have it? Consider politely showing the imperfection to a sales person and inquiring if s/he can help you out on the price. Yup, it’s okay to do this. It never hurts to ask and it’s not personal if they say “no.” But tread lightly –  It is a thin line between a reasonable request and chutzpah…
  7. Speak up. Don’t see what you are looking for? Ask one of the friendly sales staff If they have it. They are continually putting new items on the sale tables.
  8. BYOBag – it’s good for the environment and saves you a teeny bit of your hard-earned cash.
  9. Stay calm. This sale will require you to bring your Zen for sorting through lots and lots of cardboard boxes. Thankfully the boxes are labeled and separated by size and the tables are labeled and separated by gender. That said, after a few hours of customer “sorting” I guarantee a disorganized jumble. The point is, this is for die-hard deal tracking shoppers and not dilettantes. You know who you are.
  10.  Ruthlessly edit. Above all, remember the Deal Tracker mantra: just because it is a great price does not mean it is a great deal.It is better to walk away empty-handed than come home with something you are not going to wear/use.
