Be sure to check out  the Annual Art Auction The auction runs throughout the weekend in the Building 101 Auditorium at the Shipyard. Place silent auction bids (need not be present to win) or pay the “buy it now” price to walk away with your purchases. Start at the Auditorium to check out artists you can then visit in their studios. The silent auction includes work from a variety of Shipyard Artists, and proceeds will benefit the Shipyard Trust for the Arts. Good to knowHunters Point Shipyard Artists is the largest community of artists in the United States. Open to the public only three times a year this is a not-to-miss chance to buy original art direct from the artist.

Hunters Point Shipyard is at Innes Avenue and Donahue Street in San Francisco. Islais Creek Studios is at 1 Rankin Street, San Francisco. Park once and walk to both.

Free Admission and Free Parking (okay, more like a field).

The Shipyard and Islais Creek Studios are easily accessible by car or San Francisco Muni.

  1. Feeling organized? Check out the exhibiting artists and visit the studios that intrigue you.
  2. If you are thinking of buying art for a specific spot in your house measure your wall space and bring a tape measure to the sale. The size of art in a gallery space can be deceptive.
  3. Although the environment is rustic there are plenty of bathrooms and eats are available for purchase from food trucks. Plus most galleries serve complimentary wine and snacks. You can easily make a day of art shopping.
  4. This event is dog friendly and suitable for art hounds. But, only bring your dog if it doesn’t get stressed out in crowded, stimulating and noisy environments where other dogs and children are present.
  5. Bring the kids! Not only are they welcome, there are activities geared for kids.
  6. Don’t miss the Silent Auction running all weekend in the Building 101 Auditorium. Proceeds benefit the Shipyard Trust for the Arts.
  7. Riding your bicycle? Many artists will deliver art purchases you can’t take back home on your bike.
  8. Accessibility Warning – there are stairs and uneven walkways. 
  9. Hunters Point Shipyard and Islais Creek Fall Open Studios 2017 are part of SF Open Studios. This annual, month-long art event showcases over 800 emerging and established San Francisco artists in their studios. So you can visit open studios for the next four weekends.
  10. Muni 19 Polk bus line will drop you at the main building.
